Systems generally utilize Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy as a means of detection, however systems for Mercury based on Atomic Absorbtion Spectroscopy are available where regulations demand it. Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy offers many advantages over other techniques (such as Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy) for the determination of mercury and the hydride forming elements including better sensitivity, selectivity and linearity.
